In the sheltered front entry, clear fir doors of narrow reed glass open to a slate entry. A long entry hallway and wall of Cembonite panels skillfully connects outdoor and indoor design. The eye is drawn down the hall to a geometric designed, free-floating concrete staircase. Behind it, a vertical slot window reveals a tantalizing peak of the extraordinary view to come as one enters the great room.
Immediately on the entry’s left, a quiet alcove of bamboo flooring and floor-to-ceiling windows is designed for meditation or a small office. To the right, step onto tiled slate into a European-designed powder room. Its square composite sink and Kohler Silence fixtures, including a modern urinal, announce the home’s modernity. On one side of the long entry hallway, a full wall of sliding doors provide ample closet space.
As one turns the corner to the great room, you are immediately rewarded with an overwhelming view through a dramatic wall of windows reaching clear to the ceiling and seemingly bringing nature directly into the living space. The ceiling and outdoor soffit are one continuous line not to distract the eye from the immensity of the clouds, water & greenery. Between windows, a sleek, tall column houses a two-sided, see-through propane fireplace that provides definition of living spaces, but does not deter the view. Sliding doors open to one of three ironwood decks. Custom deck rails top a cable and galvanized steel rail system.
A second set of sliding doors opens from the dining portion of the great room, where an Absolute Black honed slab granite countertop houses a wet bar sink stainless sink and Jenn-air refrigerator. Clear finished maple cabinets offer storage. A transom window invites natural light.
Bamboo flows into the sophisticated kitchen. Counter space measures 32 & ½ linear feet and consists of stainless steel and Absolute Black honed slab granite. Satin chrome tab pulls are mounted onto clear finished maple cabinets. A 35-square foot-slab granite peninsula offers a breakfast bar and houses a stainless vegetable preparation sink and Jenn-Air oven with six burners, grill and double ovens. Overhead is located a stainless Miele hood. Stainless steel forms a one-piece counter, backsplash and sink. Along one wall, slab granite and maple cabinetry measures 16 linear feet, a portion extending into the pantry room. A 5-foot-wide pantry pocket door slides between counters, closing the kitchen off from the pantry room. The pantry door’s stainless inset pull mimics stainless outlet and light switch frames. In the pantry room, 30 maple shelves provide abundant storage. The kitchen’s south-facing French door and bank of windows view a sheltered side patio with herb garden.
From the kitchen, step up onto slate into the spacious laundry room. A maple cabinet holds a generously proportioned utility sink. Room for a folding counter and freezer/additional frigerator is available. The laundry room accesses the oversized two-car garage.
The workshop and storage/hobby room and au pair quarters are located on the lower level. In the au-pair suite, windows look to the view and a French door opens onto a patio. A sink area offers the option of a small kitchenette. Adjoining is a full bath with extra deep tub. The grey laminate and maple vanity complement the fully tiled shower/bath.
Across the hall, a workshop was designed for wine making. A drain is located in the cement floor of this multi-purpose rec room/workshop/family room. A Vino Theque Precision Digital Thermostat controls the temperature in the adjoining wine cellar. Double French doors open to the patio and beach access beyond. A covered outdoor exercise area with an outdoor shower is perfect for cleaning up and storing kayaks.
